A Schengen visa application requires travel insurance meeting a defined minimum: medical cover of at least €30,000, valid across all Schengen states, and covering repatriation.
The minimum is genuinely a minimum
€30,000 clears the visa requirement. It does not go far against a serious hospital admission in western Europe.
Single-trip vs annual
If you travel more than twice a year, an annual multi-trip policy is usually cheaper. Check the maximum duration of any single trip – commonly 30 or 45 days.
Common exclusions
Pre-existing conditions, extreme sports, and anything connected to alcohol. Declare pre-existing conditions honestly; an undeclared condition is the most common reason a travel claim is refused.
